Hepburn Bathhouse & Spa, nestled in the Mineral Springs Reserve near picturesque Hepburn Springs and Daylesford in Victoria, has recently taken out the title for Best Destination Spa at the 2009 Annual Australian Travel & Tourism Awards published in The Weekend Australian on 19th February 2010.
The Australian newspaper in association with The Weekend Australian's Travel & Indulgence section hold the awards each year to bring together consumers and operators in recognition of great Australian travel and tourism products and services.
Readers of The Weekend Australian were asked to vote in 17 hotly contested categories and select from 103 of the best contenders. Categories cover such areas as accommodation, family-focused tourism, food and wine experiences, destination spas, tour operators and other integral components of the domestic travel and tourism industry. Finalists were compiled by a panel of travel media experts and writers.
The Hepburn Bathhouse & Spa was competing against the best destination spas across Australia.Nominations included Salus Spa, Lake House, Vic (2008 winner); Ikatan Balinese Day Spa, Noosa, Qld; Injidup Spa Retreat, Margaret River, WA; LeSpa at Sofitel Mansion & Spa, Werribee Park, Vic; and Spa Qualia, Hamilton Island, Qld.
In being awarded the title of Best Destination Spa, The Bathhouse & Spa was described as a 'Spa that combines soaking in the Bathhouse (complete with relaxation pools, spa couches, steam room and spa) with all the pleasures of a contemporary day spa. The historic spa has been welcoming visitors since 1895.'
