I mention all this because we went on Friday evening to the newly re-opened Hepburn Bathhouse and Spa in Daylesford, billed now as one of Australia's biggest spa treatment centres, and rivalling the world's best. The renovation of the 19th century complex is intelligent and sensitive, using simple contemporary design and strong natural materials to create a very classy overall effect. The new baths - large concrete troughs embossed with mineral symbols - are particularly great and nothing beats a massage after a boiling hot soak.
